CHRISTIAN ROBERT ZIZZO:
MY HERO
By Frank Careccia
Christian Robert Zizzo is a 13 year old boy afflicted with a deadly, progressive disease called Leukodystrophy. This fatal neurological disorder affects the white matter of the brain. The problem can be likened to a frayed electrical wire; when the current runs through it, the wire will short out or cause a meltdown.
Christian is severely physically challenged, being both non-ambulatory and non-verbal. He is alert to his surroundings and communicates mainly through facial expressions. He requires supportive braces and other equipment to help him with the basic demands of everyday life and must also be spoon-fed pureed food.
Christian is a beautiful child, possessing the most striking blue eyes and head of sun-kissed blonde hair. One of his few joys is watching Sesame Street videos. He revels in the simple pleasures that most of us take for granted, like watching a glorious sunrise from his window or getting tucked into his bed, safe from harm, by Mom and Dad.
You can help the Zizzo family by donating to the Christian Robert Zizzo Supplemental Needs Trust Fund. For more information on how to do this, please email the Zizzo family at ziznyc@yahoo.com.
